New talks announced and image of my work on the Brilliantly Birmingham website.

The exhibition starts in 10 days! I have been busy polishing and doing the finishing touches to my new pieces.

Brilliantly Birmingham

I am currently finishing off work for Flux, part of the Brilliantly Birmingham jewellery festival starting on the 27th of November.
Flux takes place at the MAC and showcases work from emerging designers.

It is a selling exhibition so there is the chance to buy unique and innovative pieces of jewellery.

New work for Snug Gallery

Some of my new work for Snug gallery in Hebden Bridge. The collection all contain a piece of fabric from a set of hand made stitched napkins. I make my collections in batches that contain fabrics from the same source.
Above from top to bottom is a bracelet, cufflinks, ring and necklace.

The knitting and stitching show

These are some images from the knit and stitch show at the Alexander Palace taken on the 8th of November. The images show the interactive exhibition by Shane Waltener for CraftSpace. Using scraps of material a continuos chain is formed by adding and taking away material by six makers on the positioned sewing machines. I went with CraftSpace and CIP and got to have a go on the machines and add a bit to the installation. I think it will be really interesting to see what becomes of the piece after the exhibition when it is transformed into something else.

The final image shows a jewellery made by fusing glass and fabric from inside the show itself.

Jean Paul Gautier necklace, Paris fashion week.
Frames magnify the necklace beneath. I'm always attracted to frames and the way they can be worn to highlight; in this case a piece of jewellery.

making jewellery with CIP

Photos from a recycled based materials workshop I did at Community Integration partnership, Birmingham. I worked with some of the women who attend workshops at CIP creating pieces of jewellery from scarves, fabric samples and costume jewellery.

Through a combination of braiding and sewing the women came up with some very original designs.

Contemporary Craft Lab, 2010 at Manchester Metropolitan University Degree show.

I was very lucky at my degree show to be selected by snug gallery to have a selection of my work stocked there.

Islington Mill Shoot

This wednesday we did a photo shoot of my jewellery at Islington Mill in Salford. The setting was perfect, a decaying attic with a collection of accumulated junk, unused furniture, artwork, pigeon carcasses......

A black shawl, looks like a nomadic pin, a storyteller or traveller. A different side to my work, opening possibilities from it just being an pretty piece of jewellery.

emerald diggers

esmeraldero or esmeralda?

This illegal mining activity is policed by the National Police, but arrests are infrequent and jail sentences usually short. More quaqueros are shot and killed than sent to trial. Generally, a quaquero or esmeralda he is more in danger from other quaqueros and the land, yet the lure for instant riches overcomes any danger.

It's not so bad
